The report of our research with microbusinesses (businesses with fewer than 10 employees and low energy usage) has now been published by Citizens Advice.
The research was undertaken to understand the challenges these smallest businesses face in understanding the energy market and engaging with their suppliers. It also looked at ways energy suppliers could communicate with microbusinesses more effectively in order to help increase engagement, including for those in debt and at risk of disconnection.
We conducted qualitative interviews with 40 people who made decisions about energy at microbusinesses. 10 of these were businesses who were struggling to pay or had a recent experience of being in debt. We used examples of different communications to understand how these could be improved.
